- I think that this is a cause worth fighting for. I mean quite honestly, if we are allowed to venture into open access lands. Each of us should have the right to camp wherever in that area we'd like if it doesn't intrude on others. Knowing that, it's purely ridiculous what Rt Hon Mr Benn MP has written in his reply. If there's wild camping just north of the English border, I wouldn't see how difficult it would be to change it to bear similar characteristics as their northern neighbor in regards to wild camping. As far as petitions go, it's definitely something worthwhile since many people are involved. Inevitably, in order for the government to lean towards these "requests" for legal wild camping, one would have to have the funds and a strong private-sector backing to push something like this through (example: A heavy-hitting set of companies in the field with a lobbyist speaking for them all...and a pre-determined portion of their pockets).

Cheers Mike,

Seems responses are thin on the ground - but I wonder how many people too the trouble to go as far as to write to an MP? Given the response on some message boards, many folk don't believe the current situation should be challenged. And I've no doubt some folk would rather pend their time doing things other than write to their MPs - I know I've usually fallen into the latter category.

I hada letter back from Joan Ruddock,my MP and it was pretty much the same as Mr Benn's reply. It would be too much trouble for the government to change the law.
